Preparing and Painting 3D Printed Textures

Paint compatibility varies with the filament, surface, primer, and paint system. Confirm that the print is suitable for the products you plan to use, and test the complete combination on a hidden area or a spare piece first.

Work safely

Read every product label before sanding, priming, or painting. Work with suitable ventilation and use the protective equipment recommended by the product manufacturer. Keep sprays and solvents away from heat, flames, children, and pets.

Prepare in small steps

Remove dust and loose debris before applying anything. If you sand or fill a surface, use a method compatible with the print material and your finish. Apply primer only after testing it, and allow each product to cure according to its label.

Build the finish gradually

Thin coats make it easier to preserve small details. A darker color in recesses and a lighter color on raised areas can create a bone-like effect, but the result depends on the sculpt, surface, and paint. Let layers dry between applications and stop if the finish softens, cracks, or reacts unexpectedly.

The Mini Bigfoot Skull Bust is one existing display design described as ready for custom painting. If you have a different object or finish in mind, request a custom print conversation so the material and finish can be discussed before any work is agreed.
